Hannu Paajanen is Chief of the Department of Gastroenterological surgery, Kuopio University Hospital Finland, and Professor of Surgery at the University of Eastern Finland.
My current interests in general surgery are hernias, sport injuries, gastroenterological and laparoscopic surgery. My research interests reflect this and cover over 170 peer-reviewed publications in international journals (about 15 RCT studies). I have been a physician for a number of sport clubs. My interest in groin injuries stems from my experience as general surgeon in inguinal hernias, laparoscopy and my research in MRI.
I have been running multiple randomized studies of various meshes, fixation methods and operative techniques in inguinal hernia surgery. I have also been invited as speaker and as teacher of live surgery in many Asian and European countries.
I have over 20-year experience of training multiple soccer and ice-hockey clubs in young adults and children. I also participate actively long-distance running competitions world-wide to keep myself in good shape. My interests outside medicine are family, raising 3 children and 2 grandchildren as well. My hobbies are reading novels, watching historical tv series (war history).
